> **Short answer:** GG means "goal goal": both teams score at least one goal. NG means "no goal": at least one team scores zero. Who wins the match does not matter. GG is also called BTTS (both teams to score).

## GG/NG example: Enyimba vs Rivers United

Say Enyimba play Rivers United. The bookmaker offers these prices:

- GG at 1.85 (example odds)
- NG at 1.90 (example odds)

You bet ₦1,000 on GG. Your stake (the money you bet) is ₦1,000.

If the match ends 2–1, both teams scored. GG wins. Your return is ₦1,000 × 1.85 = ₦1,850. Your profit is ₦850.

If the match ends 1–0, Rivers United did not score. GG loses. You lose your ₦1,000.

Now say you bet ₦500 on NG instead. If the match ends 1–0 or 0–0, NG wins. Your return is ₦500 × 1.90 = ₦950. Check your own numbers with the [payout calculator](https://oddsclass.com/tools/payout_calculator/).

## What GG means in betting

GG means both teams must score at least one goal for your bet to win. The final score is what counts, not who wins.

A 1–1 draw wins a GG bet. So does a 3–2 home win or a 1–4 away win. A 3–0 win does not, because one team scored zero.

## What NG means in betting

NG means at least one team fails to score. It is the opposite of GG.

A 0–0 draw is NG. A 2–0 or 0–1 result is also NG. Every possible result is either GG or NG, never both.

This table shows how common scores settle:

| Final score | GG bet | NG bet |
|---|---|---|
| 0–0 | Loses | Wins |
| 1–0 | Loses | Wins |
| 0–2 | Loses | Wins |
| 1–1 | Wins | Loses |
| 2–1 | Wins | Loses |
| 3–0 | Loses | Wins |
| 2–2 | Wins | Loses |
| 4–1 | Wins | Loses |

## GG vs over 2.5 goals

GG and over 2.5 are different bets. GG needs both teams to score. Over 2.5 needs three or more goals in total, from any team.

They often win together, but not always:

| Final score | Total goals | GG | Over 2.5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–1 | 2 | Wins | Loses |
| 3–0 | 3 | Loses | Wins |
| 2–1 | 3 | Wins | Wins |
| 0–0 | 0 | Loses | Loses |

A 1–1 draw is the classic GG win that loses over 2.5. A 3–0 win is the opposite. Read more in our guide to [over 2.5 goals](https://oddsclass.com/learn/over_2_5_goals/).

## GG and over 2.5 combo bet

The GG and over 2.5 combo wins only if both teams score and there are three or more goals. Many bookmakers offer it as one market.

Both parts must win, so the combo is harder to win than either bet alone. That is why the odds are higher.

Example: Asante Kotoko vs Hearts of Oak. The combo is priced at 2.40 (example odds). You stake GH₵10.

- If the match ends 2–1, both parts win. Your return is GH₵10 × 2.40 = GH₵24.00.
- If the match ends 1–1, GG wins but over 2.5 loses. The whole bet loses.
- If the match ends 3–0, over 2.5 wins but GG loses. The whole bet loses.

## When GG is more likely

GG is more likely when both teams attack well and defend poorly. No sign makes it certain, but some factors help.

Look at these before you bet:

- **Recent scoring.** Have both teams scored in most of their recent matches?
- **Clean sheets.** A clean sheet means a team let in zero goals. Few clean sheets on both sides points towards GG.
- **Missing players.** An injured goalkeeper or main defender can weaken a team.
- **Match type.** Two attacking teams often trade goals. A strong team against a weak one may end 2–0 or 3–0.
- **What is at stake.** Teams that must win tend to attack more late in the match.

Even when every sign points to GG, matches can end 1–0 or 0–0. Treat these factors as clues, not promises.

## Common mistakes

- Thinking GG means the home team wins. GG says nothing about the winner.
- Mixing up GG and over 2.5. A 1–1 draw wins GG but loses over 2.5.
- Adding many GG picks to one accumulator. One 1–0 result loses the whole slip.
- Betting GG on every match without checking [team form](https://oddsclass.com/learn/team_form/).
- Forgetting that GG/NG usually ignores extra time and penalties.
