What Is HT/FT in Betting?
HT/FT (half-time/full-time) is a bet on the result at half-time and the result at full-time together. For example, 1/1 means the home team leads at half-time and wins the match. Both parts must be right for the bet to win.
HT/FT example: Gor Mahia vs Tusker
Gor Mahia are listed first, so they are "1". Tusker are "2". "X" means a draw.
Each pick has two parts. The first part is the half-time result. The second part is the full-time result.
Say you stake (the money you bet) KSh 100 on Gor Mahia 1/1 at 3.20 (example odds).
- If Gor Mahia lead 1–0 at half-time and win 2–1, you get KSh 100 × 3.20 = KSh 320. Your profit is KSh 220.
- If the score is 0–0 at half-time and Gor Mahia win 2–1, your 1/1 bet loses. That result is X/1.
- If Gor Mahia lead at half-time but the match ends 1–1, your bet loses. That result is 1/X.
What are the 9 HT/FT outcomes?
There are 9 HT/FT outcomes. Three half-time results times three full-time results gives 3 × 3 = 9.
Here are all 9 for Gor Mahia vs Tusker, with KSh 100 staked (example odds):
| Pick | Half-time | Full-time | Odds | Return on KSh 100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| 2/2 | Tusker lead | Tusker win | 6.00 | KSh 600.00 |
Only one of the 9 outcomes can happen. Your pick loses on the other 8. Check any return in the payout calculator.
Why do 2/1 and 1/2 have high odds?
2/1 and 1/2 have high odds because they need a comeback. One team must lead at half-time, then the other team must win.
Comebacks happen in football, but not often. To win 2/1, the team behind at the break must score enough to go ahead. That usually means at least two goals in the second half.
In the table, 2/1 is 21.00. The implied chance (1 ÷ odds, as a percentage) is about 4.76%. 1/2 is 29.00, which is about 3.45%.
Compare 1/1 at 3.20, which is about 31.25%. The bookmaker rates a steady home win as much more likely. These are estimates, not facts.
HT/FT vs 1X2
HT/FT asks you to predict two results. 1X2 asks you to predict only the full-time result. So HT/FT is harder to win, and the odds are higher.
1X2 is the normal result bet: home win (1), draw (X) or away win (2). A 1X2 bet on a home win covers three HT/FT outcomes: 1/1, X/1 and 2/1.
Example: USh 2,000 on KCCA vs Vipers (example odds). KCCA win (1X2) is 2.20. KCCA 1/1 is 3.20.
| What happens | KCCA win (1X2) at 2.20 | KCCA 1/1 at 3.20 |
|---|---|---|
| KCCA lead at half-time, win at full-time | USh 4,400.00 | USh 6,400.00 |
| Draw at half-time, KCCA win at full-time | USh 4,400.00 | USh 0.00 |
| Vipers lead at half-time, KCCA win at full-time | USh 4,400.00 | USh 0.00 |
| KCCA do not win | USh 0.00 | USh 0.00 |
The 1/1 bet pays USh 2,000 more, but only in one case. The 1X2 bet wins whenever KCCA win. Read our 1X2 guide for more.
Common mistakes
- Reading the pick the wrong way. The first part is half-time. The second part is full-time.
- Thinking a 1/1 covers any home win. It loses if the home team is not ahead at half-time.
- Chasing comeback odds. 2/1 and 1/2 pay a lot because they rarely happen.
- Forgetting extra time rules. Full-time usually means 90 minutes plus added time.
