What Is a System Bet?
A system bet is one slip that splits your picks into several smaller accumulators. For example, "system 2/3" makes every pair from three picks, so you get three doubles. You can still get money back if one pick loses, but your stake is split, so each win pays less.
System bet example: Enyimba vs Kano Pillars
Say you choose three picks and place a system 2/3 for ₦3,000 in total. That makes 3 doubles (two-pick accumulators). Each double gets ₦3,000 ÷ 3 = ₦1,000.
| Pick | Selection | Odds (example odds) |
|---|---|---|
| A | Enyimba to beat Kano Pillars | 1.80 |
| B | Gor Mahia to beat AFC Leopards | 2.00 |
| C | Kaizer Chiefs to beat Orlando Pirates | 1.50 |
Multiply the odds in each double, then multiply by ₦1,000:
| Double | Odds | Return on ₦1,000 |
|---|---|---|
| A + B | 1.80 × 2.00 = 3.60 | ₦3,600.00 |
| A + C | 1.80 × 1.50 = 2.70 | ₦2,700.00 |
| B + C | 2.00 × 1.50 = 3.00 | ₦3,000.00 |
Never assume a result. The returns below depend on how the matches end, such as Enyimba winning 2–1.
What do I get back if 2 or 3 picks win?
In a system 2/3, you get paid if at least two picks win. If all three win, all three doubles pay.
| What happens | Doubles that win | Return | Profit or loss on ₦3,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| A, B and C win | 3 | ₦9,300.00 | +₦6,300.00 |
| A and B win, C loses | 1 (A + B) | ₦3,600.00 | +₦600.00 |
| B and C win, A loses | 1 (B + C) | ₦3,000.00 | ₦0.00 |
| A and C win, B loses | 1 (A + C) | ₦2,700.00 | −₦300.00 |
| Only one pick wins | 0 | ₦0.00 | −₦3,000.00 |
Look at the third and fourth rows. Two correct picks can still mean no profit, or even a loss. Check your own slip with the payout calculator.
How does a system 3/4 work?
A system 3/4 makes every group of 3 picks from 4 picks. That gives 4 trebles (three-pick accumulators).
Say you stake KSh 100 in total, so each treble gets KSh 100 ÷ 4 = KSh 25. Here are four new picks (example odds):
- Vipers to beat KCCA at 1.50
- Tusker to win at 2.00
- Remo Stars to win at 1.80
- Simba to beat Young Africans at 2.20
| Treble | Odds | Return on KSh 25 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 + 2 + 3 | 1.50 × 2.00 × 1.80 = 5.40 | KSh 135.00 |
| 1 + 2 + 4 | 1.50 × 2.00 × 2.20 = 6.60 | KSh 165.00 |
| 1 + 3 + 4 | 1.50 × 1.80 × 2.20 = 5.94 | KSh 148.50 |
| 2 + 3 + 4 | 2.00 × 1.80 × 2.20 = 7.92 | KSh 198.00 |
If all four win, you get KSh 646.50. If exactly three win, only one treble pays, from KSh 135 to KSh 198. If two or more lose, you get nothing.
How many combinations are in a system bet?
The number of combinations depends on how many picks you have and the size of each group. Your stake is shared across all of them.
| System | Picks | Group size | Combinations |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2/3 | 3 | 2 | 3 |
| 2/4 | 4 | 2 | 6 |
| 3/4 | 4 | 3 | 4 |
| 2/5 | 5 | 2 | 10 |
| 3/5 | 5 | 3 | 10 |
| 4/5 | 5 | 4 | 5 |
| 3/6 | 6 | 3 | 20 |
| 4/6 | 6 | 4 | 15 |
More combinations mean a smaller stake on each one. With a GH₵10 total on system 3/6, each of the 20 combinations gets only GH₵0.50.
System bet vs accumulator
An accumulator needs every pick to win. A system bet can pay when some picks lose, but it pays less when all win.
Using the first example, compare ₦3,000 on each:
| Bet | All three win | One pick loses |
|---|---|---|
| Accumulator (1.80 × 2.00 × 1.50 = 5.40) | ₦16,200.00 | ₦0.00 |
| System 2/3 | ₦9,300.00 | ₦2,700.00 to ₦3,600.00 |
The system gives some cover, but it does not make your picks more likely to win. Read more about accumulator bets.
How does a banker work in a system bet?
A banker is a pick added to every combination in a system bet. If the banker loses, every combination loses.
Say you add Hearts of Oak to win at 1.60 (example odds) as a banker. You keep system 2/3 on picks A, B and C. Each double now becomes a treble with the banker inside. With USh 3,000 in total, each gets USh 1,000.
- Banker + A + B: 1.60 × 3.60 = 5.76, return USh 5,760.00
- Banker + A + C: 1.60 × 2.70 = 4.32, return USh 4,320.00
- Banker + B + C: 1.60 × 3.00 = 4.80, return USh 4,800.00

Common mistakes
- Forgetting that the stake is split. A ₦3,000 system 2/3 puts only ₦1,000 on each double.
- Thinking two wins means profit. In the example, A and C winning still loses ₦300.
- Picking too many combinations. A small total spread over many lines pays very little.
- Not checking the total stake. Some slips charge your stake per combination.
- Treating a banker as certain. If it loses, the whole system loses.
FAQ
Is a system bet more likely to win than an accumulator?
A system bet can still pay something when one pick loses, so it pays out more often. But each winning combination pays less, and you can still lose money.
What does 2/3 mean in a system bet?
It means every group of 2 picks from your 3 picks. That makes 3 doubles, and your stake is split across them.
Is the stake I enter per combination or in total?
It depends on the bookmaker. Some ask for a stake per combination and some for a total. Check the total stake on the slip before you confirm.
Can a system bet lose all my stake?
Yes. If too few picks win, no combination wins and you lose your whole stake.
