Biggest clubs and derbies
Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are the two most successful clubs in Ghanaian football.
- Asante Kotoko (Kumasi) are nicknamed the "Porcupine Warriors." Their home ground is the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
- Hearts of Oak (Accra) are nicknamed the "Phobians." They host the Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
- Medeama SC (Tarkwa) are the 2025/26 champions and play in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
The biggest rivalry is the Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. The two clubs have played each other since 1958. These games are tense, with big crowds and high pressure.
Recent seasons show that smaller clubs can win the title too. That is worth remembering before you back a big name.
Ghana Premier League betting example: Hearts of Oak vs Asante Kotoko
Say you stake (the money you bet) GH₵10 on a Super Clash in Accra. Derbies are often tight, so here are two goals markets:
- Under 2.5 goals at 1.70 (example odds): wins with 0, 1 or 2 goals.
- GG (both teams score) at 2.05 (example odds): wins if each team scores.
| Final score | Total goals | Under 2.5 at 1.70 | GG at 2.05 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–0 | 0 | GH₵17.00 | GH₵0.00 |
| 1–0 | 1 | GH₵17.00 | GH₵0.00 |
| 1–1 | 2 | GH₵17.00 | GH₵20.50 |
| 2–1 | 3 | GH₵0.00 | GH₵20.50 |
| 3–0 | 3 | GH₵0.00 | GH₵0.00 |
If the match ends 1–1, both bets win. Under 2.5 returns GH₵10 × 1.70 = GH₵17. GG returns GH₵10 × 2.05 = GH₵20.50.
If the match ends 3–0, both bets lose. Check other amounts with the payout calculator.
How to analyse a Ghana Premier League match
Good Ghana Premier League predictions start with a few general factors. None of them can tell you the result for certain.
- Form. Look at recent results, home and away separately. See team form.
- Home advantage. Home crowds and familiar pitches matter in Ghana. Read home advantage.
- Travel. Long road trips, for example between the north and the coast, can tire away teams.
- Pitch and weather. Heavy rain or a hard, uneven pitch can slow the game.
- Fixture congestion. Clubs in CAF competitions play extra games.
- Team news. Check injuries and suspensions before kick-off.

Popular markets for Ghana Premier League
Most GPL betting uses simple markets.
- 1X2: home win, draw or away win.
- Double chance: covers two of the three results.
- Draw no bet: your stake comes back if the match is a draw.
- Under 2.5 goals: wins if there are 0, 1 or 2 goals.
- GG/NG: whether both teams score.
Keep accumulators short. Each extra match lowers your chance of winning.
Betting tax and law in Ghana
The Gaming Commission of Ghana regulates betting. The 10% withholding tax on betting winnings was repealed in 2025, so under current rules no tax is taken from your winnings. Read betting tax in Ghana and our Ghana hub.
Common mistakes
- Backing big names on reputation. Recent titles went to Samartex, Gold Stars and Medeama.
- Ignoring home advantage. Away wins can be hard to find.
- Betting on the Super Clash with your heart. Support your club, but bet with your head.
- Skipping team news. One missing key player can change a match.
- Using last season's table. Squads, coaches and promoted clubs change every year.
